Hurrican Ike came through Houston, Spring and The Woodlands but the ripple effect began well before it hit and it lingers longer than it tormented us.
The day before Ike, my trip to the local Walmart opened my eyes to the panic that was hitting our area ...
No Bread ...
No Paper Products ...
Almost out of soup ...
Out of Bananas ....
Out of Gas:

It was an eerie feeling for it to be pitch black at night and to hear the humming of all the generators.
Crews were working immediately to clean up the trees:

I was thankful for the rabbit ears on this little T.V. to hear whatever news I could:
NO meat or dairy:
A table, at the grocery store, to charge your phone:
No batteries or flashlights are left!
People were out in their yards cleaning up, helping eachother and talking with neighbors!
No School for a week for The Woodlands:

The electricity finally comes on ... Home Sweet Home ...
Clean Up:
Mother Nature vs. humanity ... we will always overcome!
The Woodlands is 27 miles North of downtown Houston and the storm didn't hit us quite as hard as it did the Southern part of Houston and the coast.

Pippa - Wow! So many interesting pictures. You have been a busy bee there.
incredible - I am amazed at what these storms can do - I have never seen anything like it
Pippa- Great photos of what 'life' was really like during and after the storm. Glad your electric is finally on and hope the clean up goes swiftly for everyone. Hurricanes are no fun. i have lived through a few 'terror' storms here and Maryland most recently just 5 years ago when Isabel paid a visit. My best to you and yours
Thanks for showing us a birdseye view of Texas, before and after. The news with all their focus on the elections isn't showing any of this. I guess the fed did too good of a job so they have nothing negative to talk about.
That golf course really got drowned. Has the water subsided any yet?
Wow! What a powerful video! Your area is very similar to ours here in North Carolina. You've certainly set the bar at a new level! Time to get busy!
Jason - very busy!
Thesa - me either
Martha - thank you
Tracy - I'm glad you liked it!
Hi Pippa! - Thanks for posting before & after. Now those are some pics we can't get anywhere else. Glad you guys are ok & your house is still standing. KM
Kristin - I'm glad you enjoyed the before and afters pictures
Hi Pippa......all your pictures are great, but that video is really something special. I have got to figure out how to do something like that for our area!
These pictures continue to blow my mind. GBU!
Pippa - Wow! Those photos are so revealing! I hope the cleanup is faster than people are predicting and that things can get back to normal...
Debi - the electricity is still out in pockets all of the city and it is getting hot again!
Pippa- Those are some great photos you took, very familiar too! We are used to the sound of the generators humming. How was the weather while the power was out? After Wilma we were without power for 28 days, just before Thanksgiving we got our power back.
My daughter lives in Humble and they are one of the few in the area with power. It has been wonderful for them to share with others. Housing, air conditioning and laundry facilities instead of getting help.
Katerina - 28 days .. wow, I bet you were so thankful that Thanksgiving!
I saw this post and at first, it made me too sad to comment. The images and photos are priceless, you should send these to the news media in your area. Great shots Pippa. Glad the worst is over...I hope. :-)

thanks Brad!
Pippa, you took some great shots. I didn't venture past my drive way for 5 days after the storm. Thanks for showing me all the Ike stuff I missed here at home.
Love the photos....wish I'd taken some at the grocery store and gas lines also...it was amazing.
I guess the lesson is to be prepared by stocking up for an emergency before it ever happens. It looks like almost everyone was not! I have never seen a store so empty, we are so use to convenience of just getting what we need, this shows it is a false sense of security.
Girls you are awesome these photos are fantastic!!!
