after Hurricane Ike in The Woodlands ... Montgomery Animal Shelter needs SOMEONE like YOU !!!!!

The Woodlands, Texas just went through Hurricane Ike and many animals were misplaced from their home!  The Montgomery Animal Shelter is in desperate need of help!

The sign is missing the letter "S" ... which stands for SOMEONE like you!

Yes .. YOU ... can make a difference!

I saw Mary Bowens article about her dog she is fostering and she informed me of how the shelter is overwhelmed with animals after Hurricane Ike hit The Woodlands, Texas area.  HERE is her foster dog Scrappy who is looking for a home.

My kids have been telling me that they want to help animals so we discussed fostering a dog until we could find a family for him or her!

Once we got to the shelter it was really, really hard to pick out what type of pet to take home!!!

Large, small, medium, long hair, short hair, docile, hyper, puppy, ugly, cute, sweet, feisty or high maintenance .. there were soooo many choices!

Abby helped take the dogs for walks.  (the couple behind her adopted a dog)

My kids fell in love with Russell ... a very, very sweet male dog, who is up for adoption!

My kids couldn't help but love all over Russell and he gave kisses in return!!!

Russell needs a home ...

  • he is very low maintenance
  • he prefers to be indoors
  • we haven't heard him bark yet!
  • he is potty trained
  • loving
  • no nipping or biting
  • quiet and loves his doggy bed!
  • he Adores children!

Pippa - Russell looks right at home in YOUR home.  LOL  Perhaps he should be a permanent fixture around there.  After all, you wouldn't want him to feel abandoned twice, now would you?  :)

Great job!  And I certainly admire the tenacity and dedication you show to your community.

My parent's neighbor (when they still lived in their big house) loved dogs and was a foster dog mom.  She had several of her own, but at any given time she might be caring for 2 or 3 others.  She had her hands full, but she really loved doing this and helping to find them permanent homes.

That Russel is a cutie-patootie!

Hey Pippa, I'm glad my family fostering "Pookie" has inspired you to foster Russell. I hope you find him a great home.  Pookie has received several offers!

Mary ... So SORRY I called him the wrong name (I had been talking to my web designer who adopted pookie) ... its Scrappy!  Well, I'm so glad he has had several offers.  We have had Russell since Saturday (he looks like a Ringo to me) and we took him back to Beth until Monday - my kids will be with their dad.  Anyways I just found out that he was in the shelter 4 months before IKE but he just wasn't "adoptable" ... sweet, but extremely shy and timid.  He is house trained, doesn't bark, nip, bite, he just wants to sit by your feet and I can say that we have seen a huge difference in his confidence with being the #ONE thing in our house.  I keep telling my kids "don't ruin him by letting him sleep on beds and couch's ... maybe his new family won't like that!".   He is just precious!!!!!

You just don't think of the animals that are displaced by a storm like that. Me personally, I would have taken my pet with me. But, I'm guessing there are always situations that you just can't and you have to make a decision at the last minute.

I'm glad you were there to help and your family has a new member,

Its great to see folks helping out where they can. How a society treats their pets is a pretty good barometer of how they treat each other.

Pippa, I can't imagine having to leave my dog when evacuating, it would break my heart. I hope all of these precious pets find good homes soon and I'm sure they are happy to be fostered by families like yours.
