Texas attracts the most Relocations in the U.S. - 4th year in a row

Texas attracts the most Relocations in the U.S. - 4th year in a row!

According to Allied Van's 41st Annual Magnet States Report.

State of Texas

Texas is the #1 Destination State for Residential Relocations.

Also, Texas Cities got the top five spots for the new housing markets, The Healthiest Housing Markets for 2009.

1. Houston, Texas

2008 Total Building Permits: 42,697

They like to do things big in Houston. Now the metro area, home to nearly 5.8 million people, can lay claim to being the largest home building market in the country, with 42,697 building permits. The market is still benefiting from an influx of population and jobs and rebuilding in the wake of Hurricane Ike. Employment rose 2.2 percent last year, representing the addition of an incredible 57,000 jobs. Home building activity in Houston has only fallen 31 percent since 2005. Also, existing home prices actually rose in Houston last year, 2.8 percent, to $160,200, still a very affordable level. Roughly one third of the home building action is in Harris County, followed by Houston proper and Fort Bend County. One of Houston's largest builders, Royce Homes, shut down last year, and Kimball Hill, one of the biggest builders in Texas, closed its doors this year after it failed to find a buyer.

2. Austin, Texas

3. Fort Worth, Texas

4. San Antonio, Texas

5. Dallas, Texas

We were just talking about this during our office luncheon today!!!  A representative from Ryland homes in Bridgeland was saying most of her business this past year has been from RELOs primarily from the north and Louisiana.  Didn't know about Kimball Hill.  Great post!!

Hi Pippa, you can count me and family as part of the relocation group and we're happy to be here almost 8 years now.

Gosh, I don't see you for awhile and now two in a row. I do like the stats in this post. It bodes well for the whole state especially with everything going on in the rest of the country. We are still going to feel the effects of these hard times but the population shift will help balance out the overall downturn! I hope you are doing well!

That is a pretty amazing thing to see Texas claim the top 5 spots.  My Dad (a broker in Fayetteville, AR which is #9 on the list) was telling me about this, so people outside of Texas are taking note!

I am not surprised as Texas has done better than most States in this downturn.

Pippa, we came in as a relocation also 12 years ago now.  We actually could have come direct from Denver to here but detoured through North Carolina (which was a long way from friends and family.)  We had always thought of Houston as a big dirty city but WE LOVE IT HERE!!!
